REUSE
At NC, we believe that furniture should be made to last and be used for generations. The foundation lies in good quality, design and choice of materials. The goal is that a product should be able to be redesigned, reconditioned and reused to extend its life. What characteristics create the conditions for the furniture to have as long a life as possible?
We have identified some characteristics that facilitate the reuse of our furniture. We have chosen to call these the furniture reuse criteria.
Reuse criteria that facilitate
To make it easy for our customers, we have identified reuse criteria that we consider particularly important to enable and facilitate the reuse of our products. By choosing furniture that meets one or more criteria, you are making a good deal both today and for the future. Removable upholstery
Many upholstered pieces of furniture, especially fully upholstered chairs, currently have glued fabric. This ensures the fabric lies smoothly against the padding, but unfortunately also makes it impossible to replace the upholstery without damaging the underlying padding.
At NC, we believe that the customer should be able to remove, wash and eventually even replace the furniture's upholstery. To make this possible, we work to ensure that all our upholstered furniture has a zipper or Velcro that facilitates washing and changing the upholstery. At present, we also have products with nailed upholstery. Changing the upholstery on these pieces of furniture requires more hand application, but the upholstery material underneath can still be kept intact.
The Removable upholstery criteria means that the product can be easily reupholstered using zippers or velcro.
Replaceable padding
It’s not just the upholstery of a piece of furniture that may need replacing. After several years of use, the padding also wears out, and in some cases, it needs to be replaced. Depending on the design of the furniture, the padding may be glued in place or lie loosely beneath the upholstery. A large part of our range features loose padding, but we still face the challenge of completely moving away from padding that is glued directly to the wood.
The Replaceable padding criteria means that the back and/or seat cushion can be easily replaced without special tools.
Solid wood
Wood is a highly suitable material when it comes to reuse – it is durable and ages beautifully over time. It’s a material that can easily be renewed and given new life by sanding and refinishing the solid wood components. In other cases, it may be enough to replace just the seat, as the wooden parts may have developed a beautiful patina instead.
The Solid wood criteria means that the product can easily be sanded and refinished thanks to being made of solid wood.
